Rosinka ($4.60) wins Rooney

Rosinka ($4.60) made the lead on the backstretch and was never headed, winning the $100,000 John Rooney Memorial for fillies and mares by 2 3/4 lengths.

Palmilla held second by a neck over stablemate Omeya, both trained by Jonathan Sheppard and coupled in the wagering.

Ridden by Jeremy Rose for trainer Graham Motion and owner the Lavington Stud, Rosinka ran the 11/8 miles in 1:48.48 on firm turf.

A 4-year-old daughter of Soviet Star out of a Last Tycoon mare, Rosinka raised her record to 4-2-0 in 9 starts, and 2-2-0 in 7 starts on grass. She came into the race off a victory in a second-level allowance on Polytrack at Keeneland in April.

Time On, the Christophe Clement-trained morning-line favorite, was one of three scratches from the main body of the race, which went with a field of six.
