Roshani rebounds in Las Palmas

Roshani can be forgiven for her seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland last month.

The winner of that race, Forever Together, won Friday's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita. Later that afternoon, Roshani won the $250,000 Las Palmas Handicap, scoring her second stakes win of the year.

Ridden by John Velazquez, Roshani ($13.80) ran a mile on turf in 1:34.32. She won the Grade 2 Las Palmas by a half-length over Rosinka, a 9-1 shot. Velazquez had Roshani in fifth for much of the race and urged her with a wide rally through the stretch.

"I wanted to wait as long as I could, because when she makes the lead too early, she waits on the other horses," Velazquez said. "It couldn't have turned out any better."

Lemon Chiffon, a 12-1 chance, rallied from 11th in the field of 13 to finish third. Black Mamba, the 7-5 favorite, was last to the final turn and closed to finish seventh.

Roshani won the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico in May and was given a break through the summer. Trained by Todd Pletcher for Ben Mcelroy, Roshani has won 7 of 13 starts and $481,300.

Pletcher said she is scheduled to be sold at Keeneland in early November.
