Email

It’s a Dundeel, who won the Group 1 Randwick Guineas on March 16, will be favored to win the second leg of Australia’s autumn triple crown in Saturday’s $520,000 Rosehill Guineas at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

The winner of the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes last October, It’s a Dundeel could have as many as nine rivals in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas, which is run over about 1 1/4 miles on turf. The third leg of the series is the $1,560,000 Australian Derby at Randwick Racecourse on April 13, the same day that the brilliant unbeaten sprinter Black Caviar is scheduled to run in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes at that track.

Trained by Murray Baker of New Zealand, It’s a Dundeel, by High Chaparral, has won 6 of 9 starts. He was fourth in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes over seven furlongs March 2 in his first start of the calendar year.

It’s a Dundeel’s competition in the Rosehill Guineas may include Fiveandahalfstar, who won the Group 1 Victorian Derby at Flemington Racecourse last November; Sacred Falls, who won the Group 1 New Zealand Guineas last November; and Tatra, who was third in the Randwick Guineas.
