Trainer Dale Romans will be honored Dec. 5 by the Turf Publicists of America with the prestigious Big Sport of Turfdom Award at the Symposium on Racing and Gaming in Arizona.
Romans has been in the spotlight for much of 2012, enjoying a banner season with horses such as Little Mike, Shackleford, Dullahan, and Tapitsfly.
“I’m really honored, and I’m going to be there to receive it,” said Romans.
The Big Sport award has been given annually by the publicists’ group since 1966 and honors a racing personality who has gone above and beyond in granting his or her time to enhance publicity for racing. The 2011 honoree was trainer Graham Motion.
Yes, very deserving. He is very accomodating to the fans and the media, is a great trainer, and just loves horses and the game. Congratulations, Dale.

CLASSIC BRYCE went to the sidelines after tanking in the 2012 Canadian Triple Crown, and has worked solidly for a trainer who's begun the meet with a bang. The beautifully-bred son of Grand Slam is out of G2 turf stakes winner Classic Stamp, who's the dam of a grass winner. SEEKINGTHEDIAMOND ended a streak of seconditis when he romped in a recent maiden special around two turns on the grass at Churchill. The late bloomer possesses a fitness edge on most of these, and should be in the thick of the battle.
