Rolly Polly a nose best in Maddy

ARCADIA, Calif. - Rolly Polly won her second stakes of the year on Santa Anita's hillside turf course in Saturday's $114,100 Sen. Ken Maddy Handicap for fillies and mares.

Ending a three-race losing streak, Rolly Polly ($5.40) won by a nose over I'm the Business who appeared to be a winner in deep stretch. Nanogram, a 16-1 shot, finished third in the field of 12.

Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Rolly Polly raced in mid-pack on the downhill portion of the course. With a wide rally, she reached contention near the eighth pole, racing outside Adoration, who led in midstretch. At the same time, I'm the Business emerged between fillies and mares on the inside of Adoration to take the lead.

Rolly Polly quickly engaged I'm the Business, but did not lead until the last few strides. Rolly Polly finished about 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:12.96.

Owned by Wildenstein Stable and trained by Bobby Frankel, the 4-year-old Rolly Polly has won 9 of 16 starts and $403,764. A stakes winner in England and France earlier in her career, she won the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Handicap here last April.
