Rockport Harbor reinjures foot

Rockport Harbor reinjured the right hind foot that sidelined him for most of last year in the Grade 3, $150,000 at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., on Sunday. The foot is scheduled to be reevaluated in detail on Wednesday, trainer John Servis said.

"We want to give him a few days to get through the race," said Servis.

Rockport Harbor finished fifth in the Razorback after setting the pace, and it appears that during the course of the race the old injury site became separated.

Rockport Harbor had sustained a severe laceration to his foot at 2, when he was stepped on by a rival in the Grade 2 Remsen. It extended from the bottom of his pastern through the bulb, or heel, of his foot.

Servis said plans are to remove the old scar tissue and to evaluate the wall of the foot. If it is healthy, it will be pared out and an epoxy will be applied to the injury site. From there, decisions concerning Rockport Harbor's future will be made, Servis said.

If all goes well, the earliest he would return to racing is June. If the diagnosis is more severe, retirement is a possibility, Servis said.

Rockport Harbor won the Grade 3, $100,000 Essex Handicap in February in his first start in nine months. He has won 5 of 8 career starts and earned $324,800. He races for Rick Porter.
