'Rockport' in bar shoe

Rockport Harbor was fitted with a bar shoe on Thursday after a specialist worked on his right hind foot, which was reinjured last week in the Razorback Breeders' Cup Handicap at Oaklawn Park.

More about his racing future will be known in the next four or five days, said trainer John Servis.

Rockport Harbor's right hind foot was originally injured when he was stepped on by a rival in the Grade 2 Remsen in November 2004. The old injury site, which extended from the bottom of his pastern through the heel of his foot, separated during the course of the Razorback.

Sonny Broadus, a blacksmith from southern Mississippi, worked on Rockport Harbor at Oaklawn on Thursday afternoon. Servis said he pared away scar tissue from the old injury site, and fitted Rockport Harbor with a bar shoe in order to relieve pressure. A culture on the underlying bacteria was also taken on Thursday.
