Rockingham: Step With Style wins

SALEM, N.H. - The $75,000 Rockingham Park Breeders' Cup Handicap on Wednesday unfolded just the way it looked like it should on paper. Step With Style took advantage of a fast pace to win the 1 1/16-mile turf race by 1 1/2 lengths.

Iwantaneightkaret was sent to the front right from the start, with 4-5 favorite Song for Annie in tow. With those two cutting some lively fractions, Step With Style, the 7-5 second favorite, was kept under wraps about eight lengths back in sixth place. Song for Annie took command midway on the final turn after six furlong in 1:11.69, but Step With Style, under Josiah Hampshire Jr., caught her and won in 1:45.31.

Song for Annie held the place by three-quarters of a length over Big Miss in the field of eight fillies and mares, while Iwantaneightkaret faded to fifth.

The Rockingham BC was the third win from four starts this year for Step With Style. Trained by Christophe Clement and owned by Moyglare Stud, she earned $45,000 and returned $4.80. She was the fourth winner on the card for Hampshire.
