Robertson joins Keeneland as vice president of sales

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Walt Robertson, whose retirement was announced by Fasig-Tipton in October, will re-enter the Thoroughbred auction world in a newly created position at Fasig-Tipton’s rival, Keeneland.

Keeneland president Nick Nicholson announced Tuesday that Robertson was to start work at the Lexington auction house on Wednesday as its vice president of sales. Robertson, 62, “will oversee and direct all functions of the Keeneland sales,” according to the announcement. Keeneland’s director of sales, Geoffrey Russell, will continue in his role.

Robertson was with Fasig-Tipton, also based in Lexington, for 35 years.

“I have had the honor of working with so many wonderful people in the industry through the years and could not turn down such an exciting opportunity,” Robertson said. “Nick and I have been friends for over 40 years and I am equally enthused about the opportunity for us to work together. So much is right with Keeneland, and, although it will be a challenge, my hope is to make it even better. Keeneland has such a long and storied history, and I am proud to be a part of the team.”
