Robellino pensioned from stud

Robellino, sire of classic winners in England, Ireland and Germany, has been pensioned from from duty at Littleton Stud in Winchester, England, at the age of 27.

Trained by Ian Balding to win the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes and the Group 3 Seaton Delaval Stakes as a juvenile, Robellino, a son of Roberto out of out of the Pronto mare Isobelline, was retired as a 3-year-old after having suffered a hairline fracture to his right foreleg.

He originally stood at Derry Meeting Farm in Pennsylvania before being transferred to Littleton Stud in the fall of 1988.

Robellino is the sire of Mister Baileys, the winner of the 2000 Guineas in 1994; Classic Park, who took the Irish 1000 Guineas in 1997; and the 1998 German Derby winner, Robertico. He is also the sire of two-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Royal Rebel, Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Rebelline, and Prix de l'Opera winner Diamond White.

The reason given by Littleton Stud's manager, Dave Bowie, for Robellino's retirement was old age.
