River Downs track report

Allowance preps for the major 2-year-old stakes at River Downs, the Grade 3 Cradle Stakes and the Bassinet Stakes, were run last weekend and the odds-on favorites did not disappoint.

The more impressive of the two winners was the Bernie Flint-trained filly Runway Model, an easy 9 1/4-length winner of the six-furlong Bassinet prep on Sunday. A daughter of Petionville, Runway Model won for the second time in five starts for owner Chowhan Naveed. Her winning Beyer Speed Figure of 87 is in line with those earned by stronger Bassinet winners of recent years, including 2000 Eclipse Award champion Caressing.

In the Cradle prep, contested at a mile and 70 yards, Cat Tourn turned back the late challenge of Flyrock to win by a neck. Privately purchased by Panic Stables prior to the Cradle prep, and now trained by Tom Amoss, Cat Tourn improved his career record to three wins in four starts. He earned a career-best 65 Beyer for the win.

Another likely Cradle participant, Scipion, won his seven-furlong debut last Saturday at Saratoga for trainer Patrick Biancone. A $1.9 million yearling purchase and a son of A.P. Indy, Scipion earned a 64 Beyer for his victory.
