River Downs track report

Outrageous Queen, the winner of the Tomboy Stakes for fillies two weeks ago, seeks to join Misty Breeze as the only female winners of the $45,000 Green Carpet Stakes at River Downs in Cincinnati. The Green Carpet, for Ohio-bred 3-year-olds, is at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Misty Breeze won it in 1999.

Heavy rains have pelted the area this week, and though the forecast calls for dry weather this weekend, the Green Carpet might be moved to the main track. Outrageous Queen is proven on both surfaces, but she has yet to run against colts.

Following a narrow defeat over the turf at Calder in April, Outrageous Queen shipped up to River for the Tomboy, which was moved from the turf to the dirt because of rain. Sent off as the odds-on favorite, Outrageous Queen stalked the leaders in third, took the lead with a quarter-mile to go, and drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths. She will be reunited Saturday with leading jockey Dean Sarvis.

Floater, a winner of 5 of 8 starts, including three stakes, is the leading male candidate for the Green Carpet. Floater recently won the Winter-green Stakes at Beulah over a muddy track and is the one to fear most if the race is run on dirt. Floater has no turf experience, but he might take to it, being out of a Red Ransom mare.

Xtra Jack, second in a $30,000 claimer on the turf at Lone Star Park last week, is a threat for a piece of the purse, as are Another Freddy, Dawn's Revenge, and Oh Oleg.
