River Downs track report

Yarny's Star scored his fifth victory of the year in Wednesday's second race at River Downs, for $8,000 claimers. What makes this feat noteworthy is that Yarny's Star is 11 years old.

While many of his peers have long since retired or are far past their prime, Yarny's Star is having a banner season. In addition to his five wins, the Ohio-bred has lost four races by one length or less, including an allowance at Beulah Park on April 27. Yarny's Star is owned and trained by Kerny Hancock.

* Jockey Rico Flores escaped serious injury in Sunday's eighth race when his mount, Napa's Way, threw him after clipping heels with a rival entering the clubhouse turn. Flores was back to ride on Monday's card.

* Craig Koff, a native of Highland Beach, Fla., won first prize of $5,000 in the River Downs-Daily Racing Form handicapping contest May 18, and qualified for the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, to be held in January in Las Vegas.
