River Downs Nehru looks for another

Nehru will try to repeat his impressive performance in the Green Carpet prep and win the $50,000 Green Carpet at River Downs. In the Green Carpet prep May 16, jockey Yuri Yaranga kept the 3-year-old Nehru back off very slow early fractions. Nehru was steadied in the stretch when a foe drifted in, but still drew clear to win by 1 3/4 lengths going away. The prep was at 7 1/2 furlongs on the River Downs turf course, while the Green Carpet will be run at 1 1/16 miles over the River Downs turf. The prep also served as the maiden win for Nehru, trained by Wesley Ward, who claimed Nehru for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey at Gulfstream Park March 14. The prep was the first race for the new connections. Yaranga will retain the mount.

Should the Green Carpet come off the turf, or Nehru fail to run well, undefeated That's a Heckofacat should pick up the pieces. Now 4 for 4, That's a Heckofacat has won three Ohio stakes in a row, with the last being the H.B. Noonan at Beulah Park April 10 in ridden-out fashion. That race was his first of the year and first since winning the Best of Ohio Juvenile last Oct. 3 at Thistledown. Others in the nine horse Green Carpet are Baba Booey, Busha', Oh Age Eye Oh, Almighty O, My Best Chance, Tsunaami Stu, and Gambleformoney.
