River Downs: Agresssive Elegance challenges males in Green Carpet

It will be the classic girl vs. boys showdown when Agressive Elegance faces License to Bling and 10 other colts and geldings in the $50,000 Green Carpet at River Downs on Sunday.

Agressive Elegance dominated a field of 3-year-old Ohio-bred fillies in her turf debut May 12 locally and will now try to do the same thing to the boys. Trained by Craig Holstein, Agressive Elegance will be making only her third lifetime start. She finished second in her maiden debut April 20 at Mountaineer while closing fast in the six-furlong event. In her last out in the Tomboy, she ran a visibly impressive race, blowing by the field in the 1 1/16-mile turf event in the stretch, winning by 9 1/2 lengths and earning a 52 Beyer Speed Figure. Albin Jimenez retains the mount.

License to Bling was the Ohio 2-year-old champion last year and is 1 for 1 on the grass thus far. In his last out May 11 in the Green Carpet prep, License to Bling won by nearly three lengths, earning a 58 Beyer, going 7 1/2 furlongs. The added distance of the 1 1/16-mile Green Carpet should not be a problem for the Tim Hamm-trained License to Bling as he won the Best of Ohio Juvenile last October at the same distance at Thistledown.

License to Bling is part of a three-horse Blazing Meadows Farm entry with Mercer’s Mark and Raise the Bounty. Rafael Mojica will ride once again.

Uncle Virgil, Diavoletto, Risky Romance, Rudyard K, Doctor Diego, Kipling Boy, and Eyes Super Freaky also entered.
