Rita Katrina completes statebred sweep

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Rita Katrina angled to the outside of a wall of four horses into the stretch, and dug in to win the $50,000 Rainbow Miss Stakes by a length over Ile St Jaycee. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to Abby the Great.

With the win, Rita Katrina completed a sweep of the two Arkansas-bred stakes for her division, with her other victory coming last fall in the $50,000 Lady Razorback Futurity at Louisiana Downs.

Rita Katrina ($3.80) settled in fifth early in the Rainbow Miss, as a four-wide duel developed on the lead, with Round Rock Road leading the charge through an opening quarter in 22.27 seconds and a half-mile in 46.20. Rita Katrina moved to the leaders at the quarter pole, and in the stretch ran down Ile St Jaycee. She covered the six furlongs for 3-year-old fillies in 1:12.39.

Larry Sterling Jr. rode the winner for trainer Burl McBride.

The win was Rita Katrina's third from six career starts. She races for Corbet Bryant Jr.
