Rindanica shares role of topweight

CALGARY, Alberta - Sunday's $40,000 Teeworth Plate attracted a full field of 10 with co-highweights Rindanica and Regal Ability assigned 120 pounds in the one-mile event.

Rindanica, favored in the Sprint Championship here May 8, bobbled at the break but rallied late to close to within three-quarters of a length of the winner, Dance Me Free.

A 4-year-old whose 3-year-old campaign was exceptional yet overshadowed by the divisional champion, Taiaslew, Rindanica will appreciate the added yardage over what will surely be a wet track.

Regal Ability came with a four-wide move in the Sprint Championship but was forced out at the sixteenth pole after pacesetter Smooth Cruiser lugged out badly, setting up a chain reaction.

They Call Me Cody, set to make his bid in midstretch, found himself in tight quarters and was forced to check. Alberta's champion older horse of last season, They Call Me Cody has been plagued by troubled trips during his career but has the positional speed to gain a tracking trip here.

Dance Me Free is the probable pacesetter, coming off his pressing trip behind Smooth Cruiser in the Sprint Championship. Rider Desmond Bryan will break the 5-year-old gelding from post 6.

Defending champion Eternal Secrecy captured the 2003 renewal in his seasonal debut, and trainer Robertino Diodoro hopes lightning strikes twice for the 7-year-old, who comes into the Teeworth without the benefit of a prep.

A draw of post 3 improves Eternal Secrecy's chances, and he is expected to force the issue early.
