Rindanica back racing in feature

EDMONTON, Alberta - Rindanica, a multiple stakes winner on this circuit, returns to the racing wars and faces five rivals in an optional $40,000 claimer at 6o1/2 furlongs that will be the featured seventh race here at Northlands Park on Wednesday.

A 6-year-old horse, Rindanica was retired to stud last fall after he was scratched out of a stakes engagement at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg because of a leg injury.

Business was disappointing in his first season at stud, and owner Rick Robertson decided to return the Kentucky-bred son of Roy to the track after he regained his soundness.

Trainer Carla Christoffersen has prepped Rindanica with three strong five-furlong works in September. He drew the rail and will be ridden by Quincy Welch, who is dueling with Rickey Walcott for the riding title at the meet.

Fly Esteem, most recently third in the Red Diamond Express, looms as the one to catch and breaks from post 5 under Desmond Bryan.

But the favorite may well be Mr Don, a winner at this class and distance two starts ago, who ran a strong third to Candid Remark going a mile last time out.

Candid Remark returned to upset the Alberta Breeders' Handicap, and Mr Don is more comfortable at this sprint distance.

Catalone, who has started just three times at the meet, is a fresh horse from a high-percentage barn.
