Rights Reserved best in Colin


ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Rights Reserved won his maiden in a lucrative way at Woodbine Sunday, taking the $133,625 Colin Stakes for 2-year-olds under Robert Landry.

It was the first stakes victory for trainer Gail Casselman, who owns Rights Reserved in partnership with John Mitchell.

"He's been a little fractions at the gate," said Landry, "and Gail's been doing a lot of work with him. He got away well, and had a good trip."

Rights Reserved pressed the early leader, Biddy's Lad, along the rail in the six-furlong dash, and edged away from Skeet in the final furlong to prevail 3 1/4 lengths over favored Tackling Stress. Skeet finished another 2 1/2 lengths back in third in the five-horse field. The final time was 1:11.51.

Rights Reserved, a son of With Approval, returned $9.20 as the third choice, and earned $80,175.

* Favored Devastating ($3.10) outran Mysterious Affair to capture Sunday's supporting feature, the $105,000 Kamar Stakes for fillies and mares.

Devastating, trained by Robbie King, ran seven furlongs in 1:22.46 with James McKnight aboard.
