Rider wins six at Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, Iowa - Jockey Terry Thompson broke the single-day riding record at Prairie Meadows when he rode six winners on the 10-race program Monday afternoon.

Thompson started with a win aboard Endless Honour ($6.80) in the first race, captured the fourth with Country Warrior ($4.20), and the sixth by a nose on first-time starter Mystery Hit ($6.20). In the seventh race he rode Brown Eyed Major ($22.20) to a wire-to-wire victory.

Thompson tied the existing record of five wins on one program, which he shared with several other riders, when he guided 2-year-old first-time starter Lovesmegold ($4.40) to an easy victory in the eighth race.

The record nearly fell in the ninth race when Thompson hit the front inside the final sixteenth aboard Littleriverqueen, but rival jockey Cindy Noll and her mount, Rodeo Fan, rallied in the final strides to score by a neck.

In the evening's final race, Thompson, aboard Calamity Jane, and Kaylee Bailey, with rider Luis Quinonez, hooked up in a speed duel that lasted from start to finish in the mile and 70-yard event, with Calamity Jane ($9.60) prevailing by three-quarters of a length to give Thompson the record.
