Ride Her Out relishes Calder turf

Ride Her Out, whose promising career has been interrupted on several occasions, gave every indication she could still have a big future on grass by posting a surprising half-length victory over fellow longshot Pattiano in Saturday's $40,000 Copano Stakes at Calder.

Ride Her Out, a 4-year-old daughter of Stormy Atlantic, had started just nine times coming into the 7 1/2-furlong Copano, and only once since February. The Copano was only the second start of her career on grass.

After bobbling briefly leaving the starting gate, Ride Her Out ($48.60) recovered to sprint to the lead under jockey Julio Garcia, withstood early pace pressure from October Winds, then was all out to withstand the 33-1 Pattiano. Silver Lace rallied belatedly from outside to finish third.

Aclassysassylassy, the 6-5 favorite in a field of 10 fillies and mares, was shuffled back from third to sixth after being bumped by Chancey Light approaching the far turn and never menaced thereafter, finishing a disappointing fifth.

Ride Her Out covered the distance in 1:30.73 over a firm course. She is trained by Norman Pointer for the Runnin Horse Farm Inc.
