Richly Blended to California

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 3 winner Richly Blended has been sold and will stand at Rancho San Miguel in California next year.

BnD Chase Thoroughbreds announced Monday that it has purchased Richly Blended, a 4-year-old Rizzi colt, and will stand him for a $4,000 fee in 2003. BnD Chase Thoroughbreds is headed by Del Chase and based in Newport Beach, Calif.

Richly Blended, winner of the Grade 3 Gotham and Withers Stakes last year, retired in August 2001 with a stress fracture in his right front cannon bone. He has since recovered from surgery to repair the fracture and most recently has been jogging at Dweck's Jones Anderson Farm in Colts Neck, N.J.

Last month, Dweck indicated he would consider returning Richly Blended to training with Ben Perkins Jr., if a buyer didn't emerge.

Florida-bred Richly Blended is out of the Valid Appeal mare Valid Blend. Unraced at 2, he won his first two starts at 3 by more than 22 lengths. In addition to his victories in the Gotham and Withers, Richly Blended finished third in the 2001 Wood Memorial (Grade 2). He retired with a career record of 6-4-0-1 and total earnings of $323,280.
