Richard's Kid, two-time winner of the Pacific Classic, will remain in California to begin his stud career at Magali Farms in 2014.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Richard’s Kid will make his stallion debut in 2014 at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, Calif. for an advertised fee of $4,500. His retirement was announced earlier this year.

The 8-year-old son of champion Lemon Drop Kid finished his on-track career with 12 wins from 47 career starts for earnings of $2,482,259, highlighted by wins in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes. His résumé also includes wins in the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes, the Grade 2 San Antonio Handicap, and back-to-back runnings of the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap in 2012 and 2013. He set a track record of 2:29.22 for 1 1/2 miles over Del Mar’s Polytrack in his 2012 Cougar II win.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to stand Richard's Kid," said Tom Hudson of Magali Farms. "I loved this horse as a racehorse. He is a brand in himself. He made 47 starts in his career, which shows great heart and soundness. He ran and won at multiple distances ranging from 1 to 1 1/2 miles. This, coupled with his pedigree and conformation, makes him a great choice for California breeders."

Richard’s Kid was bred in Maryland by Fitzhugh LLC and honored twice as Maryland-bred Horse of the Year, in 2009 and 2010. He is out of the multiple stakes-winning Broad Brush mare Tough Broad, who is the dam of four winners from three foals to race. He is from the family of stakes winner Kid Colin, who is a leading sire in Ecuador.

Richard’s Kid joins Coil, Decarchy, Good Journey, Atticus, Mr. Broad Blade, and Roi Charmant on the Magali stallion roster.
