Artie Schiller, who is based at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., was represented in the world’s richest 2-year-old race, Australia’s Group 1, $3.5 million Golden Slipper, by Flying Artie, who finished a creditable third.

Capitalist won the race by a half-length over Yankee Rose, who was 1 3/4 lengths clear of Flying Artie.

Flying Artie won his maiden in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude, then finished second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond itself before going in the Golden Slipper.

Artie Schiller won seven stakes races, topped by the 2005 Breeders’ Cup Mile, and earned more than $2 million. He entered stud at WinStar Farm in 2007 and shuttles to Australia. He is the sire of Grade 1-winning North American juveniles We Miss Artie and My Conquestadory, with his Australian progeny led by Group 1 winner Laser Hawk.

Flying Artie gave Artie Schiller the best finish by an American-based sire in the Golden Slipper. Telperion, by the late Street Cry (Darley) was fourth, just a head behind Flying Artie. Good Standing, also by Artie Schiller, was 10th; Astern, by Medaglia d’Oro (Darley), was 11th; and Kiss And Make Up, by More Than Ready (WinStar Farm) was 15th.
