Rich card closes Delta meet

Email

Delta Downs will close out its Quarter Horse meet with a seven-stakes program worth more than $750,000. All of the races are for horses bred in Louisiana, with the Louisiana Showcase Night card being led by the $484,300 Lee Berwick Futurity.

Gametime was the fastest qualifier for the Berwick when he won his June 25 trial by three lengths. He covered 350 yards in 17.39 seconds. Gametime drew post 9 for the finale, which is a restricted Grade 1.

Among his chief rivals are Beyondthegame, who is undefeated in four starts. The filly won the Grade 2 Louisiana Lassie at Delta in May. Also in the field are One Rare Copy, who is seeking his fifth straight win, and Zoobilee, who is out to make it four in a row.

Other stakes on the card include the $100,000 Louisiana Classic at 400 yards. McM Dozen Dasher, who was 5 for 6 last year, is looking for his first win on the season. He has started twice this year, with his most recent effort a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Delta on June 13.

There is a special first post of 6:05 p.m. Central for the 12-race card Sunday.
