Northern Scene, who in his first start against Texas-breds won the $100,000 Texas Hall of Fame Stakes earlier this month at Retama Park, will remain in the statebred stakes ranks for his next start, said his trainer, Morris Nicks.

Northern Scene is being pointed for the $50,000 Richard King at Sam Houston Race Park on Nov. 19. The race will be run over 1 1/8 miles on turf, and is part of the Texas Champions Day card at Sam Houston.

Nicks said Northern Scene is at his best on the turf, and he proved it in the Hall of Fame, when he defeated, among others, stakes winners Charming Socialite, Agrivating General, Rare Cure, and Goosey Moose. Some of those horses will move back to dirt for the $100,000 Star of Texas at Sam Houston on Nov. 19.

* Jockey Larry Taylor had an 18-win lead in the rider standings going into the final week of racing Wednesday night, while just one win separated leader Danny Pish and John Locke in the trainer standings.
