Zydeco Affair($15.60) outfinished favorite Leo's Last Hurrahy late to pull a mild upset Saturday night in the $100,000 El Joven at Retama Park near San Antonio. The one-mile turf race 2-year-olds shared a program with the $100,000 La Senorita for fillies, which was won by favorite Sea Bloom($6.80).

In the El Joven, Zydeco Affair sat in fifth early, about a length behind pacesetter Spirit of a Legend. He inched closer on the final turn, and in the drive outkicked Leo's Last Hurrahy to the wire, proving three-quarters of a length best over firm turf in 1:37.81. It was another three quarters of a length back in third to Alpler.

Jockey John Jacinto was aboard Zydeco Affair for owner David Beard and trainer Tony Richey, and with the first-place check of $60,000, the Islefaxyou colt improved his record to two wins from five starts and earnings of $73,233.

In the La Senorita, Sea Bloom was prominent throughout, racing about a half-length behind the pace early before taking the lead at the top of the stretch. From there, she increased her advantage under jockey E.J. Perrodin, winning by two lengths over Prom Date. It was another 1.25 lengths back in third to Amiga.

Sea Bloom, a daughter of Sea Hero, earned $60,000 for the win, which was her second in fourth career starts. She races for John Treece and James Rester and is trained by Sam David, Jr.
