Retama: Hello Lucky class of Lakeway

Hello Lucky was second to arguably the quickest 3-year-old filly in northern California in May, and for her first start since then, she turns up at Retama for the $40,000 Lakeway Stakes.

The Lakeway will be run at six furlongs and drew a field of 10 3-year-old fillies.

Hello Lucky was purchased after the $55,000 Vallejo at Golden Gate on May 29, a race in which she finished four lengths behind the winner, Lunachick, who ran the six furlongs in 1:08.40.

Hello Lucky has since been working at Louisiana Downs for new trainer Eric Guillot, including a bullet five-furlong drill in 59.60 seconds July 2. She is the class of the Lakeway, with a record that includes a third-place finish to Sweet Catomine last year in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante and a win in the $85,000 Anoakia at Santa Anita. Guy Smith has the mount

Lady Carmen returns to racing with fillies after finishing fifth against colts last out in a restricted overnight stakes at Lone Star Park. Before that she was a close fourth in an overnight stakes at Arlington Park. Lady Carmen won her maiden last year at Saratoga.

Others of interest in the Lakeway include Lip Gloss, who used her closing kick to win her last two starts, a maiden and an allowance, both at six furlongs at Lone Star in June.
