Retama adds Wounded Warriors Mile to closing-day card

Retama Park near San Antonio has announced plans for a new stakes, the $35,000-added Wounded Warriors Mile, on its closing-day card Dec. 29.

The one-mile turf race is restricted to Texas-breds who have never won a stakes. It is for 3-year-olds and up. Nominations close Dec. 19.

The new race is designed to complement a donation a philanthropist will make to the Wounded Warrior Project.

“We are very pleased to arrange this significant gift from an anonymous donor to wounded heroes who engage in combat in far away lands to protect our freedom at home,” said Bryan Brown, chief executive officer of Retama.
