A rested New Dimension puts streak on line

Broadway Gold, winless in her last six starts, runs Thursday at Belmont.

ELMONT, N.Y. - New Dimension, who was idle through the second half of the summer after scoring a pair of hard-fought victories in July, returns to action and looks for her third straight win in Thursday's eighth-race feature at 6 1/2 furlongs.

The $47,000 allowance for non-winners of two races other than maiden, claiming, or starter drew a field of seven fillies, four of whom appear closely matched based on their best races. New Dimension, Broadway Gold, Factual Contender, and Lila Paige each have proven capable of running Beyer Speed Figures in the mid- to upper-80's, and they have all won on the main track at Belmont Park at least once.

drew toward the outside in post 6, which figures to enable the same kind of pace-pressing trip that produced her maiden and preliminary allowance wins earlier this summer. She broke from post 10 and raced three wide in winning by a neck on this track July 2, and returned four weeks later at Saratoga to win an entry-level allowance by a half-length after forcing the pace from the outside.

breaks from post 5, and will be reunited with Jerry Bailey. Trained by Stanley Hough, Broadway Gold won the first two starts of her career under Bailey as a 2-year-old, including the Astoria Stakes, but she is winless in six subsequent starts. She comes off the best race of her career Beyer-wise, however, a third-place finish at Saratoga in which she had the lead between calls in the upper stretch and weakened late behind graded stakes winner Seeking the Ante.

was claimed by trainer Lisa Lewis for $65,000 from a runner-up finish to Lila Paige on Aug. 14. The leading money winner in the field, Factual Contender has started at least once a month every month since September 2004, and has finished in the money in 10 of her last 12 starts. She worked a bullet five furlongs on the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga on Sunday, and appears to be sitting on another good race.

Lila Paige edged Factual Contender with a last-to-first rally last time out, and picks up Edgar Prado for the rematch.

Speed Bag, Intense Desire, and Nevaeh complete the field.
