Report: All American Futurity winner positive

The Quarter Horse Stolis Winner, winner of the $1.9 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in his last start Sept. 1, tested positive for caffeine following that race, according to an article in the Albuquerque Journal. The $1 million winner's share of the purse was paid out more than 30 days ago, Heath Taylor, who trains Stolis Winner, told Daily Racing Form on Thursday.

"At this particular time, I have not been made aware officially of a positive test on Stolis Winner for caffeine," Taylor said Thursday.

"My comment is that I adamantly maintain the integrity and innocence of myself, the horse, and my owner of any wrongdoing whatsoever."

According to the Albuquerque Journal article, Julian Luna, executive director of the state racing commission, confirmed the caffeine positive but declined to comment on the amount of caffeine found in the horse's system. There is a zero-tolerance policy for caffeine in New Mexico.

Luna did not return calls from Daily Racing Form on Thursday. A commission staff member on Thursday said a hearing on the matter is set for Nov. 15.

Taylor said Stolis Winner is based at Lone Star Park and preparing for the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity on Nov. 30. Stolis Winner is a three-time Grade 1 winner for owner Jerry Windham.
