Remington Park: Patty's Pride comes from far back to win Ricks Memorial

Patty’s Pride rallied from about 10 lengths off the pace to win the $50,000 Ricks Memorial by 1 3/4 lengths Friday night at Remington Park. Gorgeous Melody finished second in the one-mile turf race for fillies and mares, andit was another nose back in third to Someplace Else.

Patty’s Pride ($16.40) raced in seventh in the early stages of the Ricks, while handful of different runners contested the pace through fractions of 23.60 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.99 for the half-mile, and 1:11.11 for six furlongs. Patty’s Pride put in a strong bid through the stretch to cover the distance on firm turf in 1:35.89.

Glen Murphy rode the winner for owner-breeder Brian C. Schartz and trainer Karl Broberg. Patty’s Pride came into the Ricks off a third-place finish to Grade 3 winner She’s All In in a Remington allowance. She’s All In is scheduled to make her next start in the $100,000 River Cities at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 8.

The Ricks was the second career stakes victory for Patty’s Pride, behind the Matron at Evangeline Downs in July. She is a 4-year-old by Special Rate and she has now won 6 of 30 starts and $219,844.
