Remington Park: Chuck, Rah Rah Rachel take Stallion Stakes divisions
Email
Chuck overtook 3-5 favorite Shirley Elizabeth late to win the first of two $55,000 divisions of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes held Friday night at Remington Park. In the fillies division the favorite was also upset, when Rah Rah Rachel caught Black Ocean on the wire, to win at 25-1.
Chuck ($5.80) settled just off the pace against four other 2-year-old colts and geldings, as Shirley Elizabeth dictated fractions of 22.70 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.12 for the half-mile. Chuck rallied in the stretch and then tovertook the leader to cover six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.32. He won by a length and a quarter, while Shirley Elizabeth held second, finishing 8 3/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Bob Fudge.
Lindey Wade rode Chuck for Wayne Stockseth and trainer Don Von Hemel. Chuck is a son of Evansville Slew.
* Rah Rah Rachel ($53.80) won her maiden in the 2-year-old fillies division, when she was up for a nose win over favorite Black Ocean. Rah Rah Rachel rallied from last while turning back from a mile, and covered six furlongs in 1:13.80. David Cardoso was aboard for Iron Oaks Farm and trainer Gene Jacquot. Rah Rah Rachel is a daughter of the Point Given stallion Air Commander.
Best Bets
OUR HEAT has a win and a second in two turf tries here. She has been favored both time but is meeting tougher today. Like her style, sitting back a bit early and then unleashing a strong closing kick. She seems to like the turf and graduated in a straight maiden grass race. The breeding is heavily slanted to turf. BEEZAROO has hit the board in her past five starts at this level. Has outrun her breeding on turf and scored her lone career victory over the Lakeside Turf Course. Rider chose top pick over her, but she's picked up leading ridder for this.
