Remington: Okie Ride wins grass debut in Turf Sprint

Okie Ride overtook Pucker Up Pete approaching the wire for a 1 1/2-length win in the $50,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint on Friday night. It was Okie Ride’s first start on the grass, and his sixth career stakes win. Pucker Up Pete held second by a neck over Stickcrossmountain.

The Remington Park Turf Sprint was a five-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Oklahoma.

Okie Ride ($5.80) stalked the pace set by favorite Pucker Up Pete, who in his bid for a fifth straight win took the field through fractions of 22.15 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.97 for the half-mile. Okie Ride advanced along the inside, moved off the fence late, and shot through an opening to cover the distance on firm ground in 56.40 seconds.

Luis Quinonez was aboard for trainer Kenneth Nolen.

Okie Ride, a 6-year-old by Candy Ride, earned $30,000 for the win for owner-breeder Richter Family Trust. He has now won 10 of 24 starts and $414,854.
