Remington: Devout Sinner back with own kind

Devout Sinner, who won an allowance over male rivals in her last start, will return to racing with fillies and mares Saturday night in the $35,000 Ricks Memorial at Remington Park.

A full field of 12 was entered in the one-mile turf stakes, which also drew defending champ Strawbailey; Cherylville Slew, who won the $75,000 Irving Distaff on turf at Lone Star; Academic Angel, who is cross-entered in the River Cities at Louisiana Downs; and Kentucky shipper Gin N Ginger.

The Ricks has been a longtime goal for Devout Sinner, according to her co-owner and trainer, Joan Charlton. In her last start, the mare was a neck winner of a 7 1/2-furlong turf allowance at Remington on Aug. 9. Cliff Berry has the mount Saturday.

Strawbailey will be making her first start back from a brief freshening. She was given some time off after her last start, when she finished fourth in an off-the-turf allowance at Lone Star on June 13. R.D. Williams has the mount for trainer Joe Offolter.
