Remington: Asmussen eyes Labor Day Stakes

Steve Asmussen went to work on defending his Remington Park training title over the opening weekend, by winning two of the three stakes that were run. He has several horses pointing for Remington's next round of stakes on Monday. He said plans are to run Red Rock Creek in the $150,000 DeBartolo Memorial Breeders' Cup, Doc's Delight and My Three Sisters in the $50,000 Ricks Memorial, and at least one 2-year-old, King Gulch, in the $50,000 Clever Trevor.

Asmussen's stakes run at Remington started on Friday night, when My Sweet Valor, a 3-year-old daughter of Vindication, won the $50,000 Ponca City.

"That was pretty significant," Asmussen said. "It made her a stakes winner and put her over $100,000 [in earnings], and that was the idea. Now, we'll have to find something to follow it up with."

Plans for Stealth Cat, who won her third stakes in her last four starts in the $50,000 Adena Springs on Saturday night, are set. Asmussen said she is being pointed for the $50,000 Ada at Remington on Oct. 18.
