AUBURN, Wash. - Mister Doeny will have eight challengers on Friday when he attempts to win the second leg of the Harley H. Hoppe and Associates Marathon Championship Series, which will be contested under $10,000 starter allowance conditions at 1 1/4 miles.

Mister Doeny, from the barn of trainer Dayson Lavanway, won the initial, 1 1/8-mile leg of the four-race series on July 15, when he caught the pacesetting Big Bad Bue at midstretch to prevail by two lengths in 1:50.80. It was Mister Doeny's third win at the meet and his second in a row, as he was coming off a mile victory over $7,500 rivals on July 2.

Though defeated in the first leg of the series, Big Bad Bue impressed by hanging on gamely for second despite racing on what seemed to be a very dull rail path throughout. Big Bad Bue, trained by Sharon Ross, won the 1 1/4-mile leg of last year's marathon series.

Among the newcomers to the series is Itstufftobegood, who will be shooting for his third straight score after defeating $10,000 starter allowance company at 1 1/16 miles in his last start July 4.

* Ricky Frazier, who was involved in a horrific accident on Sunday and was expected to be out indefinitely with multiple facial injuries, galloped a horse here on Wednesday morning and was named to ride three mounts on Friday's card. Frazier was scheduled to undergo further testing on Wednesday morning and said he intends to ride as early as Thursday if he receives medical clearance.
