LEXINGTON, Ky. - Godolphin’s graded winner Regal Ransom has retired from racing and will enter stud next year at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky, Darley announced Wednesday.

A 5-year-old by Distorted Humor, Regal Ransom retires with more than $1.8 million in earnings and a record of four wins – including a pair of Grade 2 victories – and four second-place finishes from 16 starts. His two graded scores came in 2009, when he captured the United Arab Emirates Derby and the Super Derby, defeating the eventual 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and champion older male, Blame, by 1 1/4 lengths. He came close to winning another when he finished a nose behind First Dude in Churchill’s Grade 3 Alysheba Stakes in May.

Regal Ransom’s dam is Kelli’s Ransom, whose foals also include the late three-time Grade 1 winner Devil May Care, Regal Ransom’s half-sister by Malibu Moon.

Darley will announce Regal Ransom’s stud fee later.
