Redaspen hangs on

Redaspen ($17.60), pinched back at the start, held off a late rally by 9-1 longshot Wild Chick to win by a head in the $65,000 Navajo Princess Stakes at the Meadowlands.

A 4-year-old filly ridden by Victor Molina for Maryland-based trainer Tim Woolley, Redaspen made a three-wide move coming around the turn and took the lead in midstretch. Prop Me Up finished third as the 3-5 favorite.

It was the third win in five starts on grass for Redaspen, now 6 for 17 overall. She was coming off a last-place finish in which she endured a wide trip in an optional claiming race taken off the turf.

The time for a mile and 70 yards over a turf course rated good was 1:43.69.
