Red Mile: Sunday 9/30 Analysis

Best Bet: THE LINDY RESERVE (6th)   Spot Play: FROM ABOVE (12th)

Race 1

I tried hard to find a filly in this race that could beat (1) BLUFF, but I just came up blank. She just seems a step faster than this field. (6) CANADIAN JUSTICE is interesting on form but might not be fast enough. (3) ON THE BRIGHT SIDE has the looks of an underlay.

Race 2

(1) GUCCIO gets a short field and should enjoy the Red Mile surface. I have to think he’ll step up today. (5) MAGIC TONIGHT has speed and looks like the main danger. (3) MODERN FAMILY qualified well on Lasix.

Race 3

(7) ONE IN A MILLION is as erratic as they come, but I’ll roll the dice on the hopes that this track moves him up. (4) RULES CLEAR could control the action, especially if the top choice breaks. The only question is the long layoff. (3) RED ROCKS raced well in his last start here.

Race 4

(3) PERSONAL STYLE hasn’t won a race since the Hambo Oaks but finds a field with the fast (5) WIN MISSY B likely winging on the front end to set up her late kick. (6) SUPERSTAR HANOVER could leave and sit close. If the trip works out and others falter, she could be right there.

Race 5

(7) LITTLE BROWN FOX is clearly the best in here. (2) GYM TAN LAUNDRY is the only other signed on to this event that scares me. (5) BANKER VOLO and (6) MONEY ON MY MIND are steady sorts.

Race 6

(1) THE LINDY RESERVE jumps off the page in this field and should handle these with ease. (4) ITS BUSH TIME comes off a decent try and might like the bigger track. (2) MR CHICAGO hasn’t lived up to expectations but has a chance.

Race 7

I don’t know if (8) FIVEKNUCKLESHUFFLE is ready, but it is a positive sign that Hochstetler calls on Pierce to drive. This guy has never missed the board in his career and don’t be fooled by those slow looking times from last year at Yonkers . . . they are at 1 1/16 miles. (2) MAYTIME TERROR looks competitive and adds Tetrick. (5) DUTCH RICHMAN was Miller’s choice over a couple of others.

Race 8

(4) TACTICAL CAVIAR has been facing tougher older foes. This looks like a good spot. (3) FOUR DAMSALS comes off a good win and a solid second versus much better in her prior start; respect. (2) STERLING VOLO has been racing well.

Race 9

(5) NORTHERN MISS HALL is on quite a roll and might just be too sharp for any of these to best her. (4) GOTCHA GIRL comes with an interesting driver switch to Pierce. (9) LOVE N LINDY ships down with some form for a barn that does well here.

Race 10

(6) CHAPTER SEVEN is the best trotter in North America right now. He won’t be racing for much money but should get a nice tightener. (5) ARCH MADNESS is the only other one in here that can beat the top choice; cold $3.00 exacta. (7) BLUERIDGE LEGACY gets Gingras in the bike.

Race 11

(5) CHECK ME OUT is the leader for Horse of the Year at this point with only a few more major stakes still on the agenda. Unless something crazy happens, we should be looking at another short exacta with (4) MAVEN underneath. The latter raced well with no chance last time and has a legitimate shot at the minor upset. (7) VALDONNA is a decent filly but the others are a step or two better.

Race 12

(5) FROM ABOVE seems to be moving in the right direction for Schnittker. (3) APPOMATTOX gets class relief. (1) FUSION MAN has form but gets tested for class. (4) BEER SUMMIT is fast enough when he is feeling right.

Race 13

(4) RESISTANCE FUTILE clearly has ability but can’t mind his manners. This looks like the type of horse that could get his act together on the Red Mile surface. (2) NATIVE BLUE showed some promise in his two starts. (3) CARD KNOCK LIFE hasn’t been bad at Pocono. I could see him stepping up.
