State Treasurer (5) won the photo over Foiled Again (3).

State Treasurer, driven masterfully by Tim Tetrick, rallied off live cover to capture the $160,500 Allerage Farms event for open pacers at The Red Mile on Sunday afternoon.

Sent off at odds of 8-1, State Treasurer tracked the live cover of Foiled Again and out-sprinted his rival late to win in a blanket photo.

The race set up with Sweet Lou vaulting from the outside starting position to the front in 26 3/5. The divisional leader maintained his advantage through fractions of 54 1/5 and 1:21 4/5 as Foiled Again raced up without cover and Bettors Edge held the pocket. State Treasurer was second over for Tetrick and once into the straightaway pounced on the leaders. The five-year-old, by Real Desire, scored in 1:48 3/5 defeating Foiled Again, with Bettors Edge between horses in third and Modern Legend finishing fourth.

“I got to follow the six million dollar horse and he led me to the promised lane,” said Tetrick of Foiled Again after the victory.

Sally and Paul Macdonald own State Treasurer, a winner for the eighth time in 2014 for trainer Dr. Ian Moore.

Ladies put on a show

Mistery Woman and Andrew McCarthy tracked down a determined Bee A Magician near the wire to capture the $89,000 Allerage Farms mare trot in a world record 1:51 mile as a 9-1 outsider.

Maven and Yannick Gingras were first to the lead and cut fractions of 27 4/5 and 55 1/5 before Bee A Magician pulled from fifth and advanced without cover for Brian Sears. Last year’s Horse of the Year wore down the pacesetter into the stretch and Bee A Magician trotted strongly through the lane. Mistery Woman and McCarthy had not kept with Bee A Magician’s cover on the final turn, but once in the straightaway the four-year-old by Donato Hanover kicked in powerfully and overtook the leader in the shadow of the wire. Classic Martine finished third.

“She grabbed on the right line on the turn,” said McCarthy, explaining his difficulty keeping up. “She’s been beating the boys at Pocono and I thought she could go with these.”

In a dramatic three-way photo, 3-2 favorite Yagonnakissmeornot rallied on the far outside for Ron Pierce to capture the $90,000 Allerage Farm event for pacing mares. Fast fractions were set by Anndrovette of 26 3/5 , 54 and 1:21 3/5 under some pressure by world champion Shebestingin. In the stretch, 19-1 outsider Shelliscape rallied off second-over cover for John Campbell to take the lead. The rugged mare fought pressure from Krispy Apple on the inside and Yagonnakissmeornot on the outside, but was nipped in the 1:49 3/5 mile.

Trained by Rene Allard and owned by Allard Racing, Yves Sarrazin and Kapildeo Singh, Yagonnakissmeornot, a supplemental entry, won for the 12th time in 2014. Shelliscape finished second and Krispy Apple was third.
