Red Giant retired to stud

Grade 1 winner and world record-setter Red Giant has retired from racing to stand at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, Ky. A 5-year-old son of Giant's Causeway, Red Giant will have a $7,500 fee this year.

Red Giant raced for Peachtree Stables, winning the 2008 Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship Stakes in world-record time of 1:57.16, lowering the 1 1/4-mile turf mark of 1:57.40 that Double Discount had set in 1977.

In 2007, Red Giant set a course record for 1 1/4 miles on turf at Colonial Downs, stopping the timer in 1:59.62.

Red Giant earned $1,092,410 in his 12-race career with 6 wins, 4 in stakes company.

Red Giant is out of the stakes-placed Kingmambo mare Beyond the Sun. She is also the dam of stakes winner Carnera, by Old Trieste.

* Grade 1 winner Yonaguska has relocated from Vinery Kentucky to Elite Thoroughbreds in Folsom, La. An 11-year-old Cherokee Run horse, Yonaguska is the sire of such stakes performers as Musket Man, Chief Lake, Digger, and Cherokee Country. He will stand for $4,000.
