Record-setting Bonjurnose goes for three in row

Email

Bonjurnose, who established a Lone Star Park course record for five furlongs last month, will be looking for his third straight win, all at the distance. He goes in the 10th race at Lone Star, an $18,000 optional claimer with first-level allowance conditions. The field of 11 also includes the useful sprinter First Regent.

Bonjurnose set the course record in a $10,000 claiming race June 18, when he ran five furlongs on turf in 55 seconds, winning by 2 3/4 lengths. Bonjurnose returned at the same level one start later, and was clear in another five-furlong turf sprint. He covered the distance in 55.60 seconds in a race run July 9. Bonjurnose was claimed out of that race by Dave Colone and trainer Justin Evans, and will make his first start for the connections Saturday.

Bonjurnose, who has been effective from both on and off the pace, will break from post 10 under Jose Figueroa.

First Regent is making a rare turf start after picking up checks against optional claiming opposition in his last two starts. In his most recent, he was fourth in a $18,000 optional claimer at six furlongs on dirt that went in a rapid 1:09.20. Bobby Walker Jr. has the mount for trainer Chris Hartman.
