Record pick four at Prairie Meadows

One longshot can go a long ways at Prairie Meadows. Fergies Our Man won Monday's fifth race at 21-1 and keyed the biggest pick four payoff in Prairie Meadows history. One winning ticket collected the entire pool of $12,348.65. The other winning horses in the bet were On Track in the second race at 7-1, Ruby's Red Socks in the third at 9-2, and Dicey Cat in the fourth race at 2-1. The previous pick four record was $5,040.90, set in 2005.

* Track record holder Coach Jimi Lee was set to make his 2007 debut in the six-furlong Prairie Express on Saturday night, but maybe the competition has figured out how to slow him down. Only one other horse, Star by Design, was entered to face him, and the race was canceled.

The 7-year-old Coach Jimi Lee is 5 for 7 at Prairie Meadows and has won $320,000 over the track.

* Letters for Lunch, a daughter of Alphabet Soup, topped the 2007 Iowa Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association 2-year-olds in training sale May 6 at Prairie Meadows. Lloyd DeBrucker purchased Letters for Lunch for $30,000 with River Ridge Ranch the consignor.

* Trainer Dick Clark's powerful barn has moved him to the top of the trainer standings after 12 days of racing. Clark, Prairie Meadows's all-time winningest trainer, has 12 winners in 49 starters. Kelly Von Hemel has 11 winners, with Tim Martin moving up to third with 8.

Terry Thompson leads the jockey standings with 18 wins, followed by Tim Doocy with 16, and Glenn Corbett with 12.
