Record handle on Queen's Plate Day

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The wagering on Sunday’s 13-race Woodbine card was a record for Queen’s Plate Day at $11,839,883, up 7 percent from last year, when the handle was $11,064,870.

The total betting on the $1 million Queen’s Plate was $2,916,003, which doesn’t include the horizontal wagers that ended on the Plate. Those were the daily double ($54,769), pick three ($113,784), and pick five ($168,281).

It was the second-biggest handle in Woodbine history, after the 1996 Breeders’ Cup, where the handle was $44,366,422 on the 10-race card.
