Record handle at Prairie

Prairie Meadows recorded record daily handle during its 45-day mixed meet, which ended Saturday night.

The average all-sources daily handle for the meet was $580,430, up 60 percent from last year's $362,291. The record handle follows two years of decline after Prairie Meadows had recorded average handle of $553,000 in 1999. Ontrack handle of $62,136 per day was up 4 percent from last year's corresponding meet.

On the track, jockey Glenn Corbett recorded his fourth straight mixed-meet riding title with 42 victories, but this year he had to share the crown with Cindy Noll, who also had 42 wins. Corbett had 238 mounts at the meet, one more than Noll.

Dick Clark, the all-time leading trainer at Prairie Meadows, recorded another title, saddling 29 winners at the meet. Tim Gleason finished second in the standing with 23 winners from just 94 starters, compared with Clark's 176 starters.
