Recapturetheglory to run in Preakness

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trainer Louie Roussel said Wednesday that Recapturetheglory will be sent to the May 17 Preakness after spending several days of debating whether or not to go. Recapturetheglory, fifth in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, will be the only Derby horse other than winner Big Brown to run in the Preakness at Pimlico.

Recapturetheglory returned to the racetrack Wednesday morning, jogging a mile and galloping a mile under assistant Lara Van Deren. “I wanted to wait until he went back to the track,” Roussel said. “My assistant said he’s doing really well.”

Roussel said Recapturetheglory will be sent by van Saturday afternoon and will arrive early Sunday in Baltimore. “I want to get there as soon as possible,” said Roussel, who won the 1988 Preakness with Risen Star.

Big Brown also returned to training for the first time since his resounding victory in the Derby, trotting once around the one-mile main track at Churchill under the supervision of trainer Rick Dutrow.
