Reba Is Tops invading for Hastings

Email

AUBURN, Wash. - Reba Is Tops will carry high weight of 120 pounds when she joins the Emerald Downs stakes ranks in Sunday's $50,000 Hastings Park Handicap, a six-furlong stakes for fillies and mares that drew 10 nominations.

Reba Is Tops, a 4-year-old daughter of He's Tops from the barn of trainer Bud Klokstad, is coming off a stellar Northern California campaign in which she won 4 of 6 starts, including her last 3. Reba Is Tops won the six-furlong Bay Meadows Distaff Sprint on Feb. 3. Following a freshening, she returned to win the five-furlong Monterey Handicap on turf at Bay Meadows on April 19. In her career, Reba Is Tops has won 8 of 12 starts for $148,665 in earnings.

Reba Is Tops will concede one pound to Shampoo, who was assigned 119. Shampoo, a 4-year-old Gulch filly trained by Doris Harwood, dominated her division here last year when she won four stakes. She began her current campaign on a high note, defeating a half-dozen Hastings Park hopefuls by two lengths in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance prep on April 27.

Others expected to contest the Hastings Park are Kissntheboysgoodby with 118 pounds, Beaulena (117), Private Dreams (117), She's All Silk (117), Firetrail (115), and Judicature (114).

All in that group are Emerald Downs stakes winners except for Private Dreams, who won allowance races at Hollywood Park and Bay Meadows for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
