Reason To Talk wins Distaff

Reason To Talk became a stakes winner Saturday night when she darted clear by a length and three quarters over runner-up Asheville in the $50,000 Distaff at Sam Houston Race Park. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Blue Guru.

Reason To Talk($6.20) settled about five lengths off the pace early in the mile and a sixteenth race, held over a good track, while favorite Halo Tyra set fractions of 23.97 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.96 seconds for the half with Blue Guru in close pursuit. Reason To Talk advanced approaching the final turn, had control of the race at the top of the stretch, and went on to cover the distance in 1:45.27.

Jockey Terry Thompson rode the winner for trainer David Vance.

Reason To Talk, a 4-year-old by Sabona, earned $30,000 for the win, which was her fifth in 15 starts. She has now earned $127,125 for her owner and breeder, K & K Racing Stable.

Coastalota, the starting highweight in the Distaff, was scratched because of filling in a hock.
