Reach One More takes command in Big Red Mile

LINCOLN, Neb. - Reach One More lived up to his odds-on favoritism as the big grey loped past his stablemate From the Ashes into the stretch and drew off for a 3 1 / 4-length win over a field of seven older Nebraska-bred rivals in the $20,700 Big Red Mile at Lincoln Race Course on Monday.

Reach One More, part of a three-horse uncoupled entry sent out by trainer Chuck Turco, shadowed the pace set by From The Ashes for about six furlongs, he moved outside to challenge through the final turn, then was roused once into the stretch by rider Jordan Olesiak to draw off for the convincing win. From the Ashes held second while Skwhirl, trained by Bob Rising, picked up the pieces for third, 11 1/4 lengths further back. Turco's third starter, Pats High Life, was a length back in third.

Reach One More, a 4-year-old by Blumin Affair, was claiming his seventh career stakes victory and eighth overall from 11 starts while moving his career bankroll to $110,274. He returned $2.and covered the mile in 1:40.20 over a fast track in front of a good-sized Memorial Day crowd at the track.
